John Western, professor of geography at Syracuse University, has been awarded the university’s highest instructional honor: the Meredith Teaching Professorship. The annual award is given to two professors across the university to reward and recognize outstanding teaching. During the award’s 18 years of existence recognizing 39 instructors, Western is the first geographer honored. The award is granted for three years and comprises salary enhancement, plus generous funds for both the recipients’ professional development and for initiatives within their academic units.
