Study of the American South Specialty Group Announces Student Paper and Poster Competition
STUDENT PAPER AND POSTER COMPETITION
STUDY OF THE AMERICAN SOUTH SPECIALTY GROUP

The Study of the American South Specialty Group in partnership with the Southeastern Geographer is pleased to announce its 2015 Student Paper and Poster Competition, with the goal of promoting quality research on the American South. The competition is open to any student (graduate or undergraduate) presenting either a paper or a poster at any academic conference between the end of the 2014 AAG Annual Meeting and the end of the 2015 AAG Annual Meeting, on a topic related to the American South. Physical geography and environmental topics are encouraged along with human geography and related topics.

- Be listed in SASSG publicity materials and the AAG Newsletter
- Paper winner will be invited to submit their manuscript to the Southeastern Geographer as the lead article in the journal
Directions for Submission:
Papers should be submitted as a pdf, doc, or docx files and should be no longer than 7,000 words (including citations, notes, and captions). Posters should be submitted as pdf, ppt, or pptx files and should embody proper research poster design principles at a maximum size of 8′ x 4′. Submit files by email to amy [dot] potter [at] armstrong [dot] edu before 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) on April 1, 2015; the submission email should specify which conference the paper or poster was or will be presented, within the specified time period. Papers and posters not adhering to these specifications will not be considered.
Entries will be judged on quality of research, contributions made to understandings of the South, and quality of writing or effectiveness of poster design.
The winners will be announced at the SASSG business meeting in Chicago. Membership in the Study of the American South Specialty Group is strongly encouraged. Questions should be addressed to amy [dot] potter [at] armstrong [dot] edu.
